Tech Day: Updates Related to Internet Explorer, Zoom, and OnePlus

It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.

Let's start!

:::Microsoft's Internet Explorer is all set to retire officially on June 15, 2022. The Internet Explorer will be neither supported by 365 Online. The browser will be replaced with Microsoft Edge, said the company in a blog post. The company has cited three reasons to retire Internet Explorer and replace it with Edge. These three reasons are as follows:

  1. Internet Explorer was released twenty-five years ago on August 16, 1995. Since then the security concern has increased due to the rise in the number of cyberattacks like phishing and malware. Edge, on the other hand, is chromium-based and provides better security against such threats.

  2. Edge improves the productivity of a device. As compared to Internet Explorer, Edge utilizes 16% less memory and 26% fewer CPU. Users who work mostly on their laptops get better battery life. As per details on the company's website, a battery lasts 36-53% longer with a single charge.

  3. Microsoft has cited compatibility as another reason for retiring Internet Explorer. While the browser performs well with legacy websites, it is no more compatible with their newer version. Edge, however, is compatible not only with modern websites but it is also compatible with the older version of websites.

Edge supports  legacy websites with its IE mode. The mode is expected to be supported by the company through at least 2029.

The feature will be rolled out this year. It will offer tools to the organizer to customize the process of issuing tickets and registering for an event. Additionally, the organizer will have the control to allow access to his/her team member to a particular section like billing.

:::Google recently launched the beta version of Android 12 called Android 12 Public Beta 1. The link to download the beta version of the operating system was shared with the users of OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. OnePlus, a few days later, pulled back the download link after receiving complaints of bricking from its users.

Users who have downloaded the beta version and are facing the issue can restore their OnePlus device by opting for factory reset with the help of Qualcomm chipset-level flash.

The steps to restore OnePlus, as mentioned on Gadgets Now, are as follows:

  1. Switch off the device by holding the volume button and plug into a PC that has Windows 7 or an above version of the operating system.

  2. After the device boots into EDL mode, search for a new "QDLOADER 9008" entry under Device Manager.

  3. Select 'User Type' as 'Other' and click on the target button. Press start and you are all set.

That is all for this week.
