Tech Day: Updates Related to Google Meet, Apple Podcast Subscription, and Sony PS5

:::Google Meet, on a Google Workspace blog, has announced a major update related to its Hand-Raising feature that was first introduced in November 2020.

The update moves people who have raised their hands to a more visible position and automatically lowers the hand once the person has spoken. It also offers improved visual icon and animated video title. The new feature will be rolled out for the users of Workspace Essentials, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Fundamentals, Education Plus, Non-Profits, and G Suite Business.

Google has started to roll out the update from June 16, 2021, and plans to make it available to all eligible users within fifteen days.

:::Apple Podcasts Subscription is now available in 170 countries.

Listeners across 170 countries can now support their favorite artists and enjoy their new content by purchasing a subscription for an individual show or a group of shows. They would also be eligible to receive additional benefits like early access and ad-free listening. A subscriber would have an option to share the account with his/her six family members and play the content on Apple Watch & Apple TV devices.

The expansion of Apple Podcasts Subscription benefits its creators too. The creators can now offer paid subscriptions to more listeners and offer perks like unedited footage & archives.

A user may become a creator on the platform by becoming a member of the Apple Podcast Program. The membership costs ₹1,799/- per year in India and $19.99 per year in the United States of America. Once eligible, the creator would earn up to 70% of the revenue. The remaining 30% would be retained by the company as a service fee.

:::Sony has rolled out its beta program for PS5.

Details about the program have not been revealed by the company; however, it has clarified the eligibility criteria. To be eligible for the program, a user must be;

  1. at least eighteen years of age; and,
  2. a resident of the United States of America, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, or France.

Once registered, the user would be automatically considered for all the future releases of the beta program. He/She would have an option to withdraw from the program before the testing phase ends by restoring the system to its latest official release.

While registering for the beta program, a user must consider the following risks:

  1. The system might behave abnormally on some occasions; and,
  2. A save might not be backed up and hence, a user would need to double-check his/her storage.

Let's start! ::: Amazon is all set to remove the 3G internet access for the users of Kindle. This comes as a move after the operators announced that they would be shifting their network completely to 4G and 5G technology. This shift would make 2G and 3G networks an outdated technology. The shift is currently only for the users of the United States of America. It would start coming into effect by the end of 2021. The devices that will lose internet access are Kindle First Generation, Kindle Second Generation, and Kindle DX Second Generation. The users will be unable to download new content. However, they would still be able to access the content that they have already downloaded on their device.
