:::Furlenco, Bengaluru-based furniture & appliance rental startup, raised around ₹1,000 crores. The fund that has been raised is a mix of debt and equity. It was raised in Zinnia Global Fund-led Series D funding round that saw the participation of investors like CE-Ventures and Lightbox Ventures, to name a few. After raising the fund, Furlenco aims to expand its user base by offering more customized solutions and brand-new offerings.

Furlenco was founded by Ajith Mohan Karimpana in 2015. He is also serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company. During its initial years, the compounded annual growth rate was 120%. It is currently functional in Pune, Delhi, Mumbai, and 10 other Indian cities.

:::The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), in collaboration with Karnataka Forest Department, introduced the Bengaluru Tree Census App. By using the app, a citizen can upload GPS readings, tree measurements, and species on it. Once the citizen has uploaded all the details, the officials from the Forest Department will verify it from their side. The app is available on Android and iOS devices.

HC Ranganathaswamy, BBMP Deputy Conservator of Forests, said that the voluntary declaration by the citizens would help in the census and the app has been designed in such a way that citizens can easily upload the information.

Upon his appointment as the Governor of Karnataka, Thawarchand Gehlot resigned as Rajya Sabha MP and Union Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment on July 07, 2021.

:::Volkswagen gave control of Bugatti to Rimac and Porsche in the ratio of 55% and 45% respectively. The 55% percent of the part of the company held by Riamc will be called Bugatti-Rimac. The joint venture will be led by Mate Rimac, the Founder and CEO of Rimac. It will be headquartered in Zagreb, Croatia while its manufacturing will remain in Molsheim, France. The change in the ownership of Rimac will not affect its internal shareholder structure.

Mate Rimac reacted to the successful conclusion of this joint venture by saying that both were a perfect match as Bugatti possessed one of the most exceptional heritage of any car company in history just like Rimac.

:::Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) appointed Rashid Khan, the leg-spinner, as the captain of Afghanistan's T20 International side. The factors considered by ACB to appoint Rashid Khan as the captain were his experience, performance, and leadership skills with the National Team. Rashid Khan thanked ACB in a tweet and said, "I am a great believer that a captain is as good as his team. It is Afghanistan that gave me the name and it is my duty now to serve my country & my team."

ACB, on the same day, appointed Najibullah Zadran, the left-handed batsman, as the Vice-Captain of the team.

:::According to data published by Venture Intelligence, Indian startups raised $12.1 billion in the first six months of 2021. The fund raised by the startups was majorly through Venture Capitalists (VCs) and Equity Firms. Out of 382 fundraising deals, the amount of thirty-one deals was more than $100 million.

The data was reported by The Economic Times, which quoted insiders of VC firms saying that the funding was fueled by the adoption of digital technology across businesses following the Covid-19 pandemic. The insiders were also reported saying that more funds were lined up to back young and evolved startups.

:::BMW and Volkswagen were fined by the European Commission for reportedly breaching the EU Antitrust Rules by restricting competition on clean emissions for new diesel cars. The total fine imposed on both the car amounted to $1 billion. The third company to breach the rules was Daimler; however, it was not fined by the European Commission as it revealed the collusion to the Commission on time.

Margrethe Vestager, the Antitrust Chief at the European Commission, said that Daimler, BMW, and Volkswagen possessed the technology to reduce harmful emissions beyond what was legally required under EU emission standards and colluded to limit the use of that technology.

:::The Guinness World Record recorded the heaviest cherry weighing 33.05 grams. The Carmen Cherry was grown by Alberto Rosso and Giuseppe Rosso, two Italian farmers belonging to a family that has been growing cherries for centuries.

:::Construction of skyscrapers taller than 500 meters got banned in China. The ban was followed by the incident in which Shenzhen Electronics Group Plaza, a 300-meters tall building, had to be evacuated after it began to shake on May 18, 2021. The ban is being said to have been imposed to ensure the safety of the people.

Qiau Shitong, an associate law professor at the University of Hong Kong, told Bloomberg that skyscrapers were not necessarily efficient and were more like signature projects for mayors.

:::The Assam Cabinet approved legislation to protect cattle in the state. The legislation aims to end the smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh through the international border by banning its movement from other parts of the country into Assam and vice versa.

Jagdish Mukhi, the Governor of Assam, said that the proposed bill would adopt a zero tolerance policy for the protection of the sacred animal that provides life-sustaining milk.
